During the American Revolution (1775–1783), the thirteen colonies were in a bloody struggle against the British Empire. George Washington led a tired, hungry, and morally shattered army.
The American troops were freezing to death. Washington, in despair, isolated himself in the forest to pray.
And then it happened: As he prayed, a huge scream cut through the icy sky.
A giant bald eagle — of supernatural proportions — swooped down from the sky and landed on a nearby rock. It stared at Washington, flapped its wings with a thunderous roar, and let out a scream that echoed across the valley.

Washington interpreted the sign as a divine omen of victory and freedom.
Legend has it that he told his officers:
"This eagle is not just a bird. It is the spirit of freedom that soars over America!"
And in that cold winter, Washington's men were reborn in courage. The eagle was seen frequently over the camps. Whenever it appeared, morale rose and victories followed.
It is said that after the final victory over the British, the same eagle was seen flying over the independence ceremony in Philadelphia, landing briefly on top of a flagpole—as if sealing the birth of the republic.
